How time flies so fast. In few days we will be welcoming another month. The month of May will end in few days. But before we welcome the month of June I am sure some of us if not everybody is excited for the Flores de Mayo precession.
Flores de Mayo (“Flowers of May”) is a Catholic and Aglipayan festival held in the Philippines in the month of May. Lasting for a month, it is held in honor of the Virgin Mary. The Santacruzan refers to the pageant on the last day of Flores de Mayo, held in honour of Helena (known as Reyna Elena) and Constantine finding the True Cross in Jerusalem. Its highlight is usually the Santa Cruzan which is a parade ofsagalas (or muses) held on the last day of May.
I haven’t experience to be a sagala in a Santa Cruzan procession that is why I am excited for the little one. He will act as Constantine, the son of Helena. I am a certified supportive mother and I want him to experience the things I didn’t experience when I was a kid. And, well, I know mother’s out there will surely agree on what I say. Right?

Me too Mommy, never experienced to be a Sagala. My son is only 2yrs but I hope he will be chosen as one of the Sagala in the future
aww how cute! post pictures! i used to be in the sagala year in and year out in our barangay. lol.
The last time na naka experience ako ng Flores de Mayo was like way back 2000 pa. How I miss Philippine traditions.
indeed time flies so fast… half of the year is about to unfold. may the rest of the year bring us great news
Never participated in a sagala, too. I’d like to see one perhaps next year. Post pics.
All too often, it is the mothers who are more excited than their kids when it comes to parades and dress up events. Hope your son enjoy the experience as well .
It’s great that your little one is actually participating in that kind of event. Letting him known at least the tradition and also putting him on the highlight as well.
When I was a kid, was to shy to participate in that. I guess I didn’t want to be the center of attention.
Great experience for your son. Don’t forget to post photos
I miss this flore de mayo… I remember when I was a kid we used to ask flowers from our neighbors yard and she was a grumpy old woman and we’re like thieves sneaking… hahaha
I agree. We usually let our kids do what we missed during our childhood, hoping they would appreciate it!
hi sis. that must be exciting. never had a chance to watch flores de mayo here in my town. good luck to your son.
I remember during our younger days all the member of the family well except for our parents joined Santacruzan. I hope my daughter will join this kind of event just like your son =)
I did participate in a sagala once, but that was at a camping! We actually had to bring our gowns with us, but not so much people saw us, hehe
I am from Antipolo where the month of May is highly celebrated. I don’t see much of the sagalas anymore.
Being Constantine is one of the sought after parts of the parade(of course, aside from being the Reyna Elena). Post pictures of your kid during the sagala.
When I was a kid, I loved watching the Santacruzan Procession. There were lovely young ladies and handsome escorts. But before May ends, I used to attend Flores de Mayo with my peers. I enjoyed attending it for there were snacks after short session of religious instruction and singing of Church hymns.
How exciting! That’s gonna be tomorrow, isn’t it? Can’t wait for the photos
yay! congrats Sis…that is very exciting
I miss attending Flores de Mayo
Congrats that`s a great role to play as Constantine.
During my childhood days, Flores de Mayo is one of the events that we always look forward. Sadly the new generation are no longer that participative with this kind of event. I`ve been convincing my nieces and nephews but they don`t want to.
Great to hear that your little boy is taking part in such an important event. It will be a great experience for him.
wow, i so love sagala or santa cruzan too. I have portrayed reyna elena and emperatriz for several time and it was still fresh from my memory. that’s the happy day of my child and teen hood.
that will surely be a fun experience for your son
That’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you and your son. Congrats!
I’ve never experienced being part of the Sagala (I think, LOL!) but I would love my kids to experience it, and also learn about the history / significance behind the tradition!
Flores De Mayo is indeed a tradition, luckily, I was included in Sagala several times with my cousins. All the preparation, choosing of gown, and decoration of arc to be used is so much fun!
Congrats on your son’s role in the santacruzan. Take lots of pictures. I’m sure he’ll want to reminisce this when he grows up.
Hope you could post photos of the event that was
I haven’t experience sagala as well. but my son was able to be part of the Sagala/prusisyon on feast of Sto.Nino.
I agree Sis… ganyan talaga ang ina, willing to do everything for their kids
